LISC New Jersey’s Housing Development Training Institute (HDTI) is a rigorous, cohort-based program designed to build the development capacity of affordable housing practitioners across the state. Over the course of approximately 19 weeks, participants receive a comprehensive curriculum covering every phase of real estate development: from site acquisition and due diligence to financing, design, construction, and asset management. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and production, so participants not only absorb theory but also apply their skills to real-world affordable housing projects in their communities. HDTI also aims to strengthen the network of housing professionals in New Jersey by fostering peer-to-peer collaboration, mentorship, and shared resources. Graduates join a growing cohort of developers and community organizations equipped to increase the supply of affordable housing in their regions. LISC underscores that there is no cost to participate, and the program especially encourages nonprofit, community development corporations (CDCs), and smaller for-profit developers—including developers of color—to apply.
